the islamic speakers bureau of albany is comprised of teachers, engineers, doctors,
and many other professionals, as well as a number of college-level students.
certification process
to ensure each speaker is capable of presenting accurate information about islam and
muslims in a professional and courteous manner, each speaker has completed a rigorous
screening and certification process. the process requires each speaker to:
- view the sample school presentation from the ing (islamic network group) training
tape (approximately 45 minutes).
- purchase a speakers kit prepared by ing. (available at publication cost: $10.00)
- borrow a set of school presentation paper print outs with which to practice giving the
presentation.
- obtain a copy of the first amendment center guidelines for speaking about religion and
religious cultures in public schools.
- practice public speaking skills, answering faqs (frequently asked questions) and giving
the school presentation with others training to become speakers, and at least one already
certified isba speaker.
- attend a school presentation given by an isba certified speaker.
- present 5 to 10 minutes of the school presentation to the isba members and answer 3 to
5 questions from isba members.
- certification from the islamic speakers bureau of albany is earned upon successful
completion of the above steps.
certified speakers are asked to remember that you represent the islamic speakers bureau of
albany whenever you speak in public regarding islam and muslims (even when not giving an
ing presentation). the credibility and reputation of an organization is only as good as
its visible representatives.
